Searching For The Sublime
2011
Ink and brush on tissue paper.
Using tissue paper dress patterns that have outlines of the fabric pieces to be cut, and marks where darts are to be sewn, and the grain lines where fabric is to be lain, Wren wrapped the gallery walls as though they are bodies being fitted. Her imagery is the Romantic landscape, rendered in brush and ink in an old-fashioned, topographic approach, referencing the popular panoramic exhibitions of the late nineteenth century and the beauty and terror of the sublime.
